Wellness Committee

The CLSE Wellness Committee unites students, faculty, and staff with the common goal of creating inclusive learning environments that foster a love of biology while guaranteeing a sense of trust and belonging within STEM. Wellness plays an integral role in ensuring that every individual succeeds. Our committee recognizes that every member of our CLSE community deserves the opportunity to thrive when given the right resources. Because wellness is multidimensional-encompassing physical, emotional, social, and intellectual well-being, we seek to provide support from every aspect.

We aim to foster an environment of well-being that promotes not only academic success, but also personal and community growth. We work to provide opportunities in the classroom, lab, and field for all students by using evidence-based teaching practices aligned with inclusion and representation of all identities.

We also wish to make learning more accessible to all students who take a class in the CLSE or utilize our advising services so that everyone may have an opportunity to excel and develop a passion for the sciences, prepare for careers in biology related fields, and have access to support. To have access for growth, not only must the population feel safe, but it must feel a sense of trust and belonging in the community at hand. Our Wellness committee wishes to broaden the understanding of who contributes to STEM by exploring the history of science and highlighting the stories of scientists who have not only made pivotal breakthroughs but also come from a wide range of backgrounds and lived experiences.

Lastly, the applications of wide-ranging ideas and experiences to teaching and learning are all strengths that aid in student learning. The CLSE recognizes the importance of inclusivity and wellness in both the classroom and the workplace and understands the positive impacts of people bring to biology education. We seek to create a safe and supportive working environment for all staff, students, and faculty to grow and develop in a way that honors all identities and backgrounds.
